The Northeast Branch was created as a result of the merger of three branches: Mentor, Madison and Painesville. The Mentor and Madison Branches merged first in 1993. Painesville began meeting with Mentor-Madison members in the fall of 2006, and in December of 2009, the three branches officially merged as the Northeast Branch. Tracing its founding to 1924, the Painesville Branch had the longest history while the Mentor Branch was founded in 1948 and the Madison Branch in 1965.
